The title of the British and American editions is an embarrassment and the publishers should be ashamed of themselves. Unfortunately, Somoza’s presentation and, perhaps, Sonia Soto’s translation can’t keep up carrlos the goings-on.
Anyway, the plot seemed interesting enough womoza I felt like reading, so I read on. Parallel A very clever book. This conflict between the abstract “the cave of ideas” and the tangible is central to the novel skmoza something Somoza, apparently unfamiliar with the concept of subtlety, sledgehammers home at every possible point. According to Platothe realm of Ideas is the only true reality; our world is made up of imperfect, ephemeral imitations of the true ideas.
The more I read, the more the features of the text really messed with me.
As the translator explains, eidesis is: Despite the relatively poor presentation The Athenian Murders is worth reading. There is a visit to the Academy.
I was handed this book by a friend and started reading it without knowing anything about it, not even having read the backcover. Now the book takes a frightening turn; two more classmates of the first victim are murdered [or in one case, is it suicide?

It was a trick and I fell for it. The book is presented as a translation of an ancient Greek novel published in Athens just after the Peloponnesian Warcomplete with the extensive footnotes from carkos scholar performing the translation.

In the category of English translation of a Spanish novel about translating an ancient Greek Poirot mystery, this is far and away the best, and likely the only one you ever need to read.
It’s just a shame the very fine ideas couldn’t have been better realized. It is presented as an authentic Greek text, a murder-mystery of sorts from classical times. It’s somozaa because the violent and repeated images of the eidesis left uneasy impressions on my mind, like the afterimages after seeing bright colors.
The novel being translated is called The Cave of Ideasapparently by an unidentified author. I enjoyed most of the book, except for some of the Ancient Greece scenes that were longer than they needed to be.
